Zoe Wynns is a composer and singer-songwriter who enjoys composing dark, electronic, ambient scores for film and video games. In her personal vocal-based work, she has composed in genres ranging from alternative pop to screamo to indie rock. She also has written ten novels and two short film screenplays.
Wynns' musical journey spans over a decade, originating from the moment her childhood piano teacher encouraged her to explore beyond the notes and create my own melodies. Today, she is pursuing dual degrees in Music Composition and Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Top 30 University renowned for its academic excellence.
Wynns self-produced and published her first album, "sm:(e", in 2021, which explored her struggles with mental health in eight well-crafted singer-songwriter ballads. It has since gathered over 10k streams on various platforms. In 2023, she released her second album, "Abyssal Blue", a genre-bending journey metaphorically diving into narrative, storytelling, songwriting, and the creative process. Abyssal Blue has reached 15k streams on all music platforms. Recently, she released the singles "BOTTOMLESS," and "Billboard Signs", which have surpassed 25k streams total. "BOTTOMLESS" tackles anxiety in an unsettling, dark, chamber pop song that ends with a fry-screamed heart-wrenching final chorus. "Billboard Signs" is a metaphorical take on the apocalypse, pushing the boundaries of genre to include a beautiful orchestral ending combining metal screams and gorgeous harmonies.
In the spring semester of 2023, Wynns had the opportunity to compose a soundtrack for the short film "Evergreen" directed by Charles Coleman. Wynns composed seven songs in under a month, and worked closely with the director and writer to tailor her scores to their vision for the project.
In the summer of 2023, Wynns composed three original scores for "PATCHWORK," a poetry and film collective which is part of the CounterClock literary journal. Wynns had the opportunity to work with three groups of talented poets and filmmakers over the period of two months and created a soundtrack for each of the three short films. This rewarding experience required her to work outside of my usual genres and be willing to adjust to changes on a dime-- she had to complete a major revision in less than 48 hours for one of the scores.
In Spring 2024, Wynns wrapped production on "Lockdown", a Carolina Film Association short film for which she was the writer, co-director, and composer. The film won "Best Score" in the 2024 CFA Awards, taking the title out of over 20+ short films.
Alongside her studies and personal projects, Wynns has been a freelance songwriter for almost three years, working on platforms such as Fiverr, Songlorious, and Songfinch. She has completed over 500 custom song orders on these platforms, and maintains a 98% five-star review rate. This experience has refined her skills in producing and diversified her abilities to include a wide variety of genres.
